This report, published by GIZ-HERA (Poverty-oriented Basic Energy Services) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to highlight the important role played by modern energy services and related technologies in the modern agricultural production process for smallholders in developing countries. It focuses on energy input in agricultural production, processing and commercialisation in order to increase crop production and add value to products, enhance food security, increase income for farmers and rural enterprises and finally boost the development of rural areas.
The information was compiled from various relevant publications, secondary literature, the experience of programmes implemented by colleagues of GIZ and personal communication with colleagues.
